Helen Margaret Yerger Dew Scholarship

The Helen Margaret Yerger Dew Scholarship is awarded to full-time or part-time graduate students at LSU enrolled in the College of Human Sciences and Education, School of Library and Information Science, who demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in special libraries and information centers by submitting a written statement summarizing their career goals and interests in special libraries. In order to retain the scholarship, second-year or multiple-year recipients shall have completed both an internship and a three-credit directed independent study to ensure that recipients of the scholarship have multiple opportunities to interact and engage with SLIS faculty members. The internship is a three-credit course that requires on-site work at a special library or information center. The student works closely with a member of the SLIS faculty and an on-site information professional in completing the internship. The intent of the internship is to provide the student with in-depth knowledge and skills relating to special libraries and information centers. The directed independent study provides the student with an opportunity to identify, research, and appropriately report on a specific topic or area that is not otherwise included in a course offered in the curriculum of the School. The student works closely with a faculty member to identify an appropriate area and successfully conclude the study.
