Jim Springer Borck Memorial Award
The Jim Springer Borck Memorial Award is a combination of two annual awards: (1) the English Graduate Student Association’s (“EGSA”)outstanding essay prize and (2) the conference travel award.(1) The recipient of the EGSA outstanding essay prize will be the person submitting and presenting the best essay at the EGSA annual graduate student conference. The essay must represent outstanding original and previously unpublished work aligned with the announced scholarly theme of the conference. Essays will be judged by the EGSA’s elected conference co-chairs, the acting Director of Graduate Studies in English, and one additional member of the graduate faculty from the English Department. The recipient must hold graduate student status at an affiliated university and be approved by the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. (2) The conference travel award is awarded to a full-time graduate student enrolled at LSU in the Department, and must be in good academic standing. The award will be made for the purpose of traveling to a conference on Eighteenth or Nineteenth-Century British Studies. The recipient will be selected by a committee chosen by the chair of the English Department and approved by the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
